Working on a last video

Thank you everyone for coming out a supporting the team!

While we didn't win or get voters' choice, we had a great time making complete fools of ourselves. We were certainly the favorite pit of all the teams - with amazing homeless people, rocked out punks and a crazy cop - how could not have been the favorite.

We had some great reactions from people - some loved it while others hated it. One man who looked a little homeless himself, looked a little offended by our homeless duo. He was probably mad that they were doing a better job than him - or maybe the fact that our duo actually made a little money!

So, hold on a little while longer and hopefully we will have a video up for you guys soon!

Last build weekend

This past weekend was the last official build weekend for the group but that doesn't mean that the work is finished.

A lot of things have changed in the Marta is Smarta plan. We changed our body work to a much better looking poster/wood frame construction. Now the car looks like a car instead of a casket! Also, after testing the car on the jump, we changed up a bit of our suspension to handle the jump.

Some team members worked on making the skit a little more attention grabbing and we are really pleased with their improvements.

So, Marta is Smarta had a very long build weekend this past weekend.

I will post a more comprehensive story tonight but right now is a short video of a test jump.

New Music

Well, the whole team has been working hard on getting the right music together and we have come together rather well!

Of course we wanted to follow the Marta theme so we have used some sound clips from our inspiration and some other train themed music. We have also thrown in some nice little bits that will add perfectly to our skit.

Stay tuned for samples but also the full version when all music for all teams has been finalized!

Build Weekend

This past weekend was a great build weekend for the entire team. We were able to get a lot done but we were also able to get a lot planned out - witch never really seems to happen with this group.

We had a great turn out for the team - just look at the parking lot.




First, some members had already sized themselves for the frame and as you can see the creature comforts are everywhere - from the spacious cabin to the ever so supportive wood seats.




While we don't have the front end complete, the steering will be controlled by foot pedals and the cable brakes will be controlled by easy to access hand levers.

This car is no usual down hill racer and to quote one team member - "We are going to take this too seriously."


The tires are design for low rolling resistance while the wheels were hand laced by Simon and Tom for better strength.

The overall design is a clam shell design that will be easy to launch at the starting line. We are using pink foam board for most of the body work. Skitter and Jules cut out the windows and door ways for the sides and Joe, Skitter and Simon used liquid nails to glue everything together. To support the body work on the frame we will be using another type of support but right now, aluminum tape works perfectly.

After a long day of working people tend to get hungry - enter Kirsten with her amazing cooking skills and her hat! She did a great job on grilling the burgers and toasting the buns!

Now, most people on the team drink beer and everyone drinks RedBull - such a freshing and energizing drink that no one can resist - but yet some nothing says a job well done but a cold glass of milk!

After dinner work resumed. Small finishing touches were needed on the body work as it continued to dry and we discussed what we need to do during the skit.

Overall it was a success. I will update the page soon with the video from the day.

Team Meeting

As Marta is Smarta is progressing, Team Weekends are in order. This coming weekend, September 24-26, will be a build weekend where the team building everything from the wheels, steering, body work and set.

Also, we are going to post pictures of the build weekend and - depending - interviews with some of the team members.

Soon, we will be posting up bios of the entire team letting everyone know background on each of our players so stay tuned.

We have been doing this a while.

Cars are in our blood so downhill racing should come easy.





We went through some of our old pictures and ended up finding some from a previous downhill competition. Here are a few and we will tell the story later!

Under Construction

Construction has now started on our racecar!

Tom has headed down to the Team Headquarters and has returned to working on our future winner.

We will hopefully have pictures by the end of the weekend to update everyone!
